Won’t you take me to… Asiatown?

Don’t lie: you didn’t realize until a couple years ago that Cleveland even had an Asiatown. Don’t mistake this neighborhood for your average Chinatown in some other city. We’re talking continental influence. Tour it this weekend at the Cleveland Asian Festival, Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20. Asiatown spans the near-eastside blocks from East [...]

Chowdown in Midtown, bike Central, Kinsman

Too often people think downtown is Cleveland, that this neighborhood or that one represents all of Cleveland. Some of it’s good, some bad, others ugly, some beautiful. Truth is we have a network of neighborhoods and enclaves whose character, promise and histories map up to one helluva place we call home. On Thursday, July 14, you can experience two parts of town you may not know, but should: Midtown, Kinsman and Central.

Ohio City Pasta = Yum

Started as a one-man operation by Chef Gary Thomas, Ohio City Pasta has been providing fresh pasta to the Cleveland restaurant scene for more than 20 years. Now, Thomas and his crew churn out thousands of pounds of pasta you’ll find in stores, restaurants and home kitchens throughout Ohio and our neighboring states every day.

Party like a Bac star

One of my favorite ways to discover new restaurants is eating other people’s leftovers. When I took a bite of a friend’s pad thai from Bac last summer, my immediate reaction was I want to go to there. So, I did. About ten months later. But the saying “better late than never” has never been so true.

Time to chow down in C-Town

Remember ice cream trucks (and by remember, I mean last summer)? No matter how much ice cream you had in the freezer, there was something about that amped-up music-box version of ‘The Entertainer’ that made you want a dreamsicle more than world peace. There’s something about mobile food that turns up the deliciousness. Fortunately for Cleveland, that something = talent, dedication and great taste, which will all be in Tremont’s Lincoln Park this weekend.

Traveling Treats to the rescue!

Recently I was stressing about getting some Ultimate Brownies/Cakes Plus goodies from Cleveland’s top dessertista, Diana Dumitru, whose Rocky River shop serves up the best cakes, brownies, tarts, cuppies and chocolate-covered strawberries around. Then she went and launched a dessert truck, coming soon to a street near you (and me!). Traveling Treats hits the road this fall to satisfy your midday sweet tooth!

Gimme some sugar (cookies)

My friends and I were discussing what type of eating contest we’d dominate (mostly sweet eats). Some were cake-eaters, some were brownies. Personally, I’m pie and cookies. Separately, of course. On Saturday, Nov. 13, I’ll be part of a different kind of food contest. It’s the much-heralded Annual Cookie Contest at Euclid Public Library from [...]

Sweet Sunday at Main Street

Day one of Main Street Cupcakes, I walked into the shop, looked at owner Kim Martin and said: “Thank you for this public service.” Almost four years later, I’m thanking the CLE treasure for its tasty treats (mmm, fleur de sel and sweet potato fluff!) and finally making it to MSC#2 in Rocky River.

Dim and den sum more

Any good crush starts with the chase—all the running around and heart-shaped anxiety that comes with wondering when you’ll see him again, when you’ll get some more. But true love settles down and lasts a lifetime. And, well, hot true love settles down and has a few trucks on the side. At least that’s the [...]

Roseangel Tuesday: Taco the town

Tuesdays just got better. Thanks to Roseangel’s Taco Tuesdays: it’s four (count ‘em…4!) taco sliders — chicken or beef — for $1. Seriously. One dollar. It’s not a misprint. It’s just a great happy-hour deal. Not to mention the two-for-one drink specials.
